The Restore Token is a new consumable item added to BO7 Endgame in Season 3. It lets you recover your Operator's Skills, Weapon Upgrades, and full Loadout after a squad wipe. Before Season 3, dying in Endgame meant losing everything. Hours of progress could vanish in seconds if you went down in Zone 4. Restore Tokens change that by giving you a one-time safety net for your most valuable operators.

This guide covers how to earn them, exactly what they restore, and the strategy behind when to spend vs. save them.

TL;DR
  • Restore Tokens recover your Skills, Loadout, and Weapon Upgrades after a squad wipe
  • You still lose up to 15 Combat Rating (the Season 3 cap)
  • First token comes from Operation Poison Pill Step 2, more from the battle pass
  • Only use them on CR 60+ operators with Exotic or Nightmare Skills
  • Tokens are never wasted. If you don't activate within 15 seconds, you keep it

What is the Restore Token?

The Restore Token, a new consumable added in Season 3

The Restore Token is a limited-supply consumable introduced with the Season 3 update on April 2, 2026. Treyarch's patch notes describe it as follows:

"Use a Restore Token after a wipe to restore progress and prevent the loss of Skills, Weapons, Equipment and Rarity upgrades."

Treyarch, Season 3 Patch Notes

In practice, this means that after your squad wipes, you can activate the token to get back your Exotic Skills, Nightmare Skills, Weapon Rarity, Attachments, and everything else you had before dying. You still lose up to 15 Combat Rating (the new Season 3 cap), but the rest of your progress is preserved.

Restore Tokens are part of a broader set of Season 3 Endgame improvements aimed at making the death penalty less punishing. They work alongside the new CR loss cap, per-operator Loadouts, and Scorestreak carryover.

How to Earn Restore Tokens

Operation Poison Pill (Step 2)

Your first Restore Token comes from completing Step 2 of Operation Poison Pill, the new multi-step mission system in Endgame. Step 2 is called "Press the Attack" and requires you to:

  1. Kill 5 enemies with a Scorestreak
  2. Complete 3 Activities (green contracts on the map)
  3. Complete 1 Assignment (blue contracts)
  4. Escape successfully from Avalon

These objectives can be completed across multiple matches. Once you finish all four, you receive the Restore Token plus 1,000 XP. You should already have a Scorestreak from Step 1 (Party Crasher), which gives you one from a supply drop.

Battle Pass and the Token Bank

Additional Restore Tokens appear as rewards in the Season 3 update. All earned tokens are stored in the Token Bank, visible in the top-right corner of the battle pass menu. The Token Bank also includes an AUTO toggle. When set to ON, the game automatically uses a token when you wipe. Most players prefer to leave this off and decide manually during the 15-second window.

Our team has also noticed that completing all three daily challenge rotations may award a token, though this is not officially confirmed yet. Treyarch's patch notes mention "additional opportunities throughout the season" without specifying all sources.

Limited Supply

Restore Tokens are rare. Do not expect to stockpile dozens of them. Every token counts, so think before you use one.

How It Works: The 15-Second Window

The activation flow is straightforward, but there are details that matter:

  1. Your squad wipes (all members bleed out)
  2. A "You Have Been Eliminated" screen appears
  3. A 15-second timer starts counting down
  4. You choose whether to use a Restore Token
  5. If you activate it, your Skills and Loadout are restored when you respawn
  6. If you let the timer expire or decline, the token stays in your inventory

The right side of the screen shows exactly what you stand to lose without the token: Core Skills, Combat Rating, and your Loadout reset.

!
Per-Player, Not Per-Squad

Each player needs their own Restore Token. Using one only covers you. If your teammate does not have a token, they still lose their progress normally.

One detail that is easy to overlook: tokens are never consumed unless you actively choose to use them. If you do nothing during the 15-second window, the timer expires and the token stays in your Token Bank. There is no downside to bringing one into every match.

What Gets Restored (and What Doesn't)

Category Status
Skill Tracks (all progress) KEPT
Exotic Skills KEPT
Nightmare Skills KEPT
Weapon rarity and upgrades KEPT
Attachments and Modifications KEPT
Full Loadout (primary, secondary, melee) KEPT
Field Acquisitions and Equipment KEPT
Combat Rating (up to 15 CR) LOST

The CR loss is the one penalty you cannot avoid. Even with a Restore Token active, you drop up to 15 Combat Rating. For a CR 66 operator (the current max), that means going down to CR 51 at worst. What you keep is far more valuable: the Exotic and Nightmare Skills that take hours to re-earn. A single Exotic Skill requires multiple successful extractions from Zone 3 or higher. Losing that to a random crash or unexpected wipe is what makes the Restore Token worth saving for.

When to Use a Restore Token

Save for High-CR Operators

Both of our team members agreed on this: only use Restore Tokens on operators at Combat Rating 60 or higher with at least one Exotic Skill. The CR loss cap already prevents catastrophic setbacks for lower-level characters. A CR 30 operator losing 15 levels is annoying but recoverable in one or two runs. A max CR 66 operator losing all Exotic and Nightmare Skills is devastating because those require sustained Zone 3-4 play to re-earn.

The breakpoint comes down to Exotic Skills. If your operator does not have any, the only thing you lose on wipe is Weapon Upgrades and Skill Track progress, both of which come back faster than Exotics. Save the token for when it matters.

!
The Rule of Thumb

CR 60+ with at least one Exotic Skill? Use the token. Anything less? Let it go and re-grind. The 15 CR loss cap already protects you from the worst outcomes.

Insurance for Hard Content

If you are attempting the Link Forger Glitch solo or pushing Zone 4 with a stacked operator, bring a Restore Token as insurance. It does not interfere with Dark Ops challenges like Elusive or Go Fetch since it only activates after you fully die. The Link Forger Glitch in particular is a 20-30 minute commitment with real wipe potential on the later waves. Having a token means you can play aggressively instead of running a safe but slow strategy.

Solo Players and Random Squads

Restore Tokens are especially valuable for solo players or anyone matchmaking with randoms. Without coordinated teammates, squad wipes happen more often. One teammate running off alone, drawing aggro, and dying can cascade into a full wipe. Having a token lets you take those risks without losing hours of progress. If you regularly play without a premade squad, prioritize earning tokens early through Operation Poison Pill.

When NOT to Use One

  • Low-CR operators (under ~40 CR) without Exotic Skills. The CR loss cap already protects you enough. You can rebuild to CR 40 in a single good run.
  • Operators with weak Skill Tracks you plan to reset anyway. Season 3 lets you reset Skill Tracks voluntarily (costs 16 CR), so losing them might not matter if you were going to respec anyway.
  • Early in a run before you have found good loot. If you have not upgraded your weapons or earned Scorestreaks yet, there is not much to restore. The token would be wasted.
  • When you have multiple tokens banked. If you are sitting on 3+ tokens, using one on a CR 50 operator with a decent Exotic is reasonable. Hoarding tokens you never use defeats the purpose.

Season 3 Death Penalty Changes

The Restore Token is one piece of a larger overhaul to how death works in Endgame. Here is the full picture of what changed in Season 3:

Mechanic Before Season 3 Season 3
Combat Rating on wipe Reset to 0 Max loss of 15 CR
Loadout on wipe Completely lost Lost (unless Restore Token used)
Exotic/Nightmare Skills Completely lost Lost (unless Restore Token used)
Scorestreaks Lost between matches Carry forward to future matches
Self-Revives Lost between matches Carry forward to future matches
Loadout scope One Loadout shared across all operators Individual Loadout per operator
Skill Track Reset Not available Can reset one track (costs 16 CR)

The CR loss cap alone is a massive change. Going from a full reset to 0 down to a maximum loss of 15 makes Endgame significantly less punishing. The Restore Token then adds a second layer of protection for the things the CR cap does not cover: your Skills and Loadout.

Players in our Discord regularly reported losing hours of progress to disconnects, game crashes, or random bugs before Season 3. With the CR cap and Restore Tokens together, a bad wipe no longer sets you back to square one.

Tips From Our Team

  • The 15-second window after death is generous. Take a moment to check the right side of the screen, which shows exactly what you lose without the token. If you are not sure, let the timer expire and keep it.
  • If you are grinding Operation Poison Pill, the Restore Token from Step 2 is your safety net for the harder steps that follow. Steps 3-9 get progressively more difficult and a wipe on Step 7 or 8 can set you back significantly.
  • Coordinate with your squad. If everyone has a token, you can take on Zone 4 content and the Cursed Mode more aggressively. If only you have one, play it safe and communicate that to your team.
  • New players should complete Operation Poison Pill Step 2 early. It is achievable at low CR and gives you one of the most valuable items in the mode. Check our Endgame beginner guide if you need help getting started.
  • Leave the AUTO toggle in the Token Bank set to OFF. Manual activation gives you the chance to evaluate whether the wipe is worth spending a token on. A low-value wipe on a fresh operator is not worth the token even if you have one available.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Restore Token do in BO7 Endgame?

It restores all lost progress after a squad wipe, including your Operator's Skills (Exotic and Nightmare), Weapon Rarity and Upgrades, and your full Loadout. You still lose up to 15 Combat Rating due to the Season 3 cap. The token effectively lets you keep everything except a small CR penalty, making it the most valuable consumable in Endgame.

How do you get Restore Tokens in Black Ops 7 Endgame?

The first one comes from Operation Poison Pill Step 2 ("Press the Attack"), which requires Scorestreak kills, Activities, an Assignment, and a successful extraction. Additional tokens are available through the Season 3 battle pass. All tokens are stored in the Token Bank, visible in the battle pass menu. Supply is limited, so plan your usage carefully.

How do you activate a Restore Token in BO7 Endgame?

After a squad wipe, a "You Have Been Eliminated" screen appears with a 15-second timer. You choose whether to activate the token by selecting "Use Restore Token" or declining by selecting "Wipe." If you let the timer expire without making a choice, the token is not consumed. The right side of the screen shows exactly what you will lose, helping you decide in the moment.

Does the Restore Token cover your whole squad in BO7 Endgame?

No. It only covers the player who activates it. Each squad member needs their own token to restore their progress individually. If only one player uses a token, only that player respawns with their Skills and Loadout intact. Coordinate with your team before pushing hard content so everyone knows the plan.

Does the Restore Token prevent Combat Rating loss in BO7 Endgame?

Not entirely. You still lose up to 15 CR, which is the Season 3 death penalty cap. The token restores everything the CR cap does not cover: Skills, Weapon Upgrades, and your Loadout. For most players, the Skills are far more valuable than 15 CR, which can be re-earned in a single good extraction run.

When should you use a Restore Token in BO7 Endgame?

Save them for operators at CR 60 or higher with at least one Exotic or Nightmare Skill. These skills take the longest to re-earn, requiring sustained Zone 3-4 play, and are completely lost without a token. Using one on a low-CR operator without rare skills is a waste because the CR loss cap already limits the damage. The ideal scenario is a maxed operator heading into high-risk content like Zone 4 or the Link Forger Glitch.

How many Restore Tokens can you carry in BO7 Endgame?

Tokens are stored in the Token Bank, which tracks your total supply. You can use one token per squad wipe. The Token Bank also has an AUTO toggle that automatically uses a token when you wipe. Most players leave this off to maintain manual control over when to spend a token.

Do Restore Tokens void the Single-Threaded Dark Ops in BO7?

No. They only activate after you fully die and do not interfere with Single-Threaded or any other Dark Ops challenge. Bringing one as insurance is a smart play, especially on solo attempts where a wipe means losing a 20-30 minute run. The same applies to Go Fetch and Elusive.
