Keys are the most asked question in MW4 DMZ and the hardest to answer in game. The tooltip gives you a grid square and one sentence, and then you walk a whole POI looking for a single door. This guide has every key on Hajin as a card: what it opens, the route to the door, what is inside and where the key itself comes from. The map marks every door with the in-game key icon in its rarity colour, and each card has a button that jumps to its marker.

Tap a marker to see what is there. Pinch or use the buttons to zoom, and drag to move around.
- Keys come from the six story missions, the Survival Kits, Lieutenant drops and loot containers, in that order of certainty.
- Every key tooltip starts with a grid square (F4, G6, B7). That is the tac map square of the door, not a floor.
- Keys are one of several lock types. Keypad doors, bank vaults, camera rooms and robodog fuse boxes do not use keys.
- No code in DMZ is fixed. The Hanex Bank “code” is a keycard, a note with three digits and one guess.
- Search the cards below by key name, POI or grid, and use Show on map for the exact door.
October 25, 2026: 47 keys, 56 doors on the map. For 47 of those doors we have the door prompt with the key name and the player position confirmed from gameplay video, and we are walking them in our own runs; each one switches to “Opened in our own run” as we open it; fifteen doors are done so far: Commandant Office, Vault Armory, the west Cheongun gun store locker, Police Weapon Depository, Hanex Guard Station, Mirae Electrical Room, Coin Mining Den, Mechanic’s Shack, Re-Education Center Annex, Haejeok Radio Station, Roze’s Highrise Armory, Netshin IT Room, Rail Depot Storage, Shop Records Room and the Air Base DRC Weapons Locker. Spotted a door that moved or a key we missed? Tell us in our Discord.
How to Get Keys in MW4 DMZ
Story mission rewards
Each of the six operations hands out one key when you finish it: Silent Ledger gives the Counting Room Vault, Shopping Hacks the Coin Mining Den, Critical Extraction the Mirae Electrical Room, Grid Assault Roze’s Highrise Armory, Iron Citadel the Supreme Leader’s Bunker Access Card and Fallen Ember the Reactor DRC Locker. The key lands in your stash after the extraction summary. The missions do not hand the key out a second time, so pick the run you spend it on.
Survival Kits from the level rewards
The Trap Equipment Kit and the Explosives Equipment Kit each contain a Gun Store Weapons Locker key, and the Recon Equipment Kit at level 46 contains the Blackmarket Weapons Locker key. Activision’s progression notes put a Police Station Key in the level 19 Recon kit as well. Our level rewards guide lists every kit.
Keys as loot: jackets, duffels, caches and lockers
Most keys spawn as loot, and almost always somewhere else on the map than the door they open. The game says so itself: the page 18 order Locksmith in our DMZ Orders guide asks you to loot five keys, often found in jackets and residential containers, and then unlock three locked spaces. Ours came from a jacket on a coat rack in Cheongun Outskirts (Commandant Office), a duffel in Songdo Wharf (Vault Armory), a duffel in Imjin Farmland (Air Base DRC Weapons Locker and Prison Encampment Storage), a jacket in Hajin City (Utility Maintenance Storage), an industrial locker in the North Korean Wilderness and a duffel in the casino (both Blackmarket Weapons Locker). Military bags, caches behind coat racks and safes in compounds drop keys too. The one exception is the Police Station Armory key, which spawns inside the station it belongs to.
Lieutenant drops
Lieutenants drop their own Legendary key, but not often: the drop rate is low, so you have to kill enough of them before one falls. It does fall, though. Bale dropped the Supreme Leader’s Bunker Access Card for us after a string of empty kills. The Doctor, Jin-Tae, Jang-ui, Roze, The Chemist, Kang and Iskra each have a named room. If the body shows nothing, search it anyway. The full list is in the Lieutenant section below.
Keys from other players
Dead operators drop whatever was in their backpack, keys included. Keep your own keys in the secure slot or a medium backpack so you do not hand them to the squad that kills you, and if you want a specific key, ask in our Discord: “LF team to use my keys” is the most common post in the LFG channel.
How Keys Work: Grid Squares, Rarity and Uses
A key is an item in your backpack or secure slot. Its tooltip always reads the same way: a grid square, then a sentence that names the room and the building, such as “G6 - Unlocks the upper-apartment e-coin mining lab east of the westernmost gas station within NuriGO Mall”. The square is the tac map cell of the door, letters A to J from west to east and numbers 1 to 9 from north to south. B6 is a square in the southwest, not basement level six. Every key sells for $100, and the rarity colour tells you roughly what to expect behind the door: Uncommon (green) and Rare (blue) open storage rooms and shop lockers, Epic (purple) opens offices and vaults, Legendary (orange) opens the Lieutenant rooms and the Supreme Leader’s bunker, and the three Ultra (red) keys open the DRC weapons lockers.
Keys are single use. No tooltip shows a counter, but we tested it: our Commandant Office key vanished from the backpack the moment the door unlocked, every mission key other players have used disappeared the same way, and a Gun Store key opens exactly one of the three lockers in the shop. Take the Scout trait Key Cash if you open a lot of them: it pays cash for every locked room you open, more for higher rarity. If you have no key at all, the Door Breacher Charge from the Vendor opens any locked door once.
Keys are only one lock type on Hajin. Keypad doors take a four or six digit code that you find nearby, and the code changes every match. Some doors have no power until you start the generator in the basement or drop a car battery in a panel. Big POIs have a security camera room that opens gates. The robodog fuse boxes take batteries from the kamikaze dogs. And bank vaults combine three of those. If a door says anything other than “locked” with a key name, look around instead of looking in your backpack.
Every Key in MW4 DMZ, A to Z
One card per key, in alphabetical order. For most doors we have a gameplay frame with the door prompt showing the key name plus the player’s position at that moment, and that is where the marker sits; the few doors we have not pinned down yet say so on the card. The four mission items (the two Air Base cards, the Boathouse Key and the Helicopter Key) have cards too, marked as mission items. This list grows: when we find a key that is not here yet, or finally open a door we have not located, it is added to the cards and to the map.
54 keys
Air Base Access Card (Multi Use)
The keycard doors around Chang-san Air Base during Operation Iron Citadel, including the door into Admin Complex No. 2 where you upgrade it.
- RouteThe card spawns in one of four search zones on the base; the tac map marks them once the mission starts. Take it to the terminal in Admin Complex No. 2 to upgrade it.
- InsideNothing by itself: it is the pass that gets you through the base to the armory.
- KeyFound during Operation Iron Citadel. A full backpack blocks the pickup.
Air Base Armory Card (Single Use)
The armory doors in the Chang-san Air Base Bunker, together with the six digit code from the three notes.
- RouteMission item. The Access Card becomes the Armory Card at the upgrade terminal in Admin Complex No. 2. Then go down into the bunker, find the three code notes and enter the six digits at the armory keypad. The code changes every match.
- InsideThe Armory: ordnance crates, the Armory Manifest you need for the mission, the Air Base DRC Weapons Locker, and gas once you grab the manifest.
- KeyMade from the Air Base Access Card during Operation Iron Citadel. Single use.
Air Base DRC Weapons Locker
The yellow and blue locker with the DRC logo inside The Armory of the Chang-san Air Base Bunker. We opened it twice and it stood in a different corner of the armory each time, about 12 m apart, so check every wall of the room.
- RouteOpen it during Operation Iron Citadel. The armory is the room the mission takes you into, behind the keypad door with the six digit code from the three bunker notes (random every match). Getting into that room outside the mission is very hard, so run Iron Citadel again with the key in your backpack and open the locker before the armory step is done.
- InsideOpened by us twice: the prompt reads Air Base DRC Weapons Locker and the container itself is an Elite Weapons Locker with twelve slots to search. A 3-Plate Helmet Armor and a weapon manual came out of it on video. Unlocking it paid 375 XP, more than the 300 XP of a normal key door.
- KeyField loot. Ours came from a duffel in Imjin Farmland.
Bank Branch Vault Access
The vault door of a Hanex Bank branch. This is a keycard, and the vault needs two more things.
- RoutePut a car battery in the sparking power panel, swipe the card at the vault door, then enter a four digit code: a note in the bank gives the first three digits and you try the last one. Branches on the map: north Songdo Wharf and the one next to the gas station below Wolves Stadium. There is no fixed code.
- InsideTwo or three safes and loose cash, sometimes a gold skull, gold bars or a recipe. Counts for the order Find a Way Inside the Vault.
- KeySpawns inside the same bank.
Blackmarket Weapons Locker
One of the two weapons lockers in the basement back room of a Blackmarket. There is one in south Deadtown and one in Hanrim Village.
- RouteGo down into the basement, past the trinket loot, through the armoured door to the back room with two lockers. One key opens one locker.
- InsideA weapon with attachments. An Epic Kastov 762 and a Rare MP7 came out on video.
- KeyRecon Equipment Kit (Survival Kit, level 46), industrial lockers, duffels and jackets. Ours came from the North Korean Wilderness, the casino and Compound Charlie.
Boathouse Key
The garage door of the boathouse on the northeast shore of the reactor island.
- RouteMission item in Operation Fallen Ember. After the warhead step, Colossus spawns; when he goes down he drops the key. Unlock the garage door at the boathouse and raise it.

- KeyDropped by Colossus during Operation Fallen Ember.
Coin Mining Den
The e-coin mining lab in the apartment block directly east of the westernmost gas station inside NuriGO Mall.

- InsideOpened by us: two MINA MS41 crates (metals and synthetics), a rifle case, a couch, lockers and a duffel in the back office. Crafting parts, as expected; no weapon caches.
- KeyReward of Operation Shopping Hacks.
Commandant Office
The commandant's office on the second floor of Admin Complex No. 2.
- RouteNorth front door, stairs at the back, upstairs and left, first door on the left under the Conference Room sign. The tac map labels the building B6 right at the B5 line. Starting Operation Iron Citadel is the fastest way to spawn next to it.
- InsideOpened by us: a weapons locker with a 50 GS pistol, a Cronen Squall and an Odin, three military lockers with armor plates (75, 150 and 225 XP), an equipment case, a supply crate with a MAR-9, a rifle case with a Han 86 and a Warlord, Regional Combat Notes, and a duffel that held a Reactor 02 Control Room key. The key disappeared from our backpack the moment the door unlocked.
- KeyField loot. Ours came from a jacket on a coat rack in Cheongun Outskirts.
Counting Room Vault
The Counting Room on the main floor of the casino and the vault room behind it. The door prompt reads Heavenly Luck Casino Counting Room.
- RouteIn through the south lobby, right into the east wing, through the double doors and down the corridor to the door marked Counting Room. The keypad and fingerprint reader next to the inner door do nothing, the key opens both doors.
- InsideFirst room: a foot locker and a weapon crate. Second room: two stacked safes, a weapon case, cash and a duffel.
- KeyReward of Operation Silent Ledger. Also found as field loot in the Rice Mill catwalk locker and the Haksan School Armory. Reported as single use, and the mission does not hand it out twice.
Executive Arms Auction
The weapons auction room high up in DBN Headquarters, the tallest tower in The Grid.

Gun Store Weapons Locker
One of the three green weapons lockers in the basement of a gun store. There are two gun stores: west Cheongun Village, across the street from the police station, and north Songdo Wharf, the shop with the red front.
- RouteInto the shop, down the stairs, past the blown open doors with free lockers, to the room with the three locked lockers. One key opens one locker and the key is gone afterwards; the other two stay locked. Opened by us in west Cheongun Village.
- InsideA weapon with attachments. We pulled an Orsis 8.6 sniper out of the west Cheongun locker; the two lockers next to it stayed locked.
- KeyTrap Equipment Kit and Explosives Equipment Kit (Survival Kits), also field loot.
Haejeok Radio Station
The broadcasting room on level 1 of the northernmost relay station in Imjin Farmland.
- RouteLook for the red mast in Imjin Suburb; the white transmitter building with the garage door sits under it. Inside, the brown wooden door with the card reader in the hallway with the framed photos is the one.
- InsideOpened by us: the broadcasting room has three server racks to search, desks with a radio transceiver and a PC, two MINA MS41 crates under the barred window, a side room with metal lockers and a kitchen. - KeyField loot.
Hanex Guard Station
The guard room one floor below the roof of the Hanex Bank tower, between two vault rooms.
- RouteStairwell or zipline up to floor 17 (the signs count down 18, then 17). The vault door on the same floor shows an access code prompt and is a bank vault lock, not a key lock.
- InsideOpened by us: the guard room has two yellow-green steel lockers, a desk with monitors and a lootable Gaming Computer (ours held an Epic Power Regulator recipe and a Degraded Execution Footage), and a wheeled tool chest. A teammate pulled an Orsis 8.6 sniper out of it. Extreme threat all the way up.

- InsideMilitary supplies; not itemised on video.
- KeyField loot.
Hospital Chemical Lockers
The chemical lockers in Mirae General Hospital. We have the key; the door is still to be found, and a door in the hospital marked Hospital Chemical Lab - Locked did not take it in our run.
- RouteSomewhere in Mirae General Hospital, probably the lab area where the key itself spawns. We check it in game.
- InsideNot opened yet.
- KeySpawns inside Mirae General Hospital: we picked one up on a lab desk next to a test tube rack and another on a storeroom shelf in the same run. We discarded ours before reading the stash tooltip, so the full description is still open.

- InsideMilitary gear and a weapon.

Lieutenant Keys and Lieutenant Rooms
The order Keep Out (Hornet’s Nest 2 of 2) asks you to kill three Lieutenants, loot a Lieutenant’s Key, enter a Lieutenant’s Room and loot the Lieutenant’s gun. There is no item called Lieutenant’s Key. Any Legendary key with a Lieutenant’s name counts, the Supreme Leader’s Bunker Access Card counts, and so does Roze’s Highrise Armory key from Grid Assault. Dropping a key on the ground and picking it back up counts as looting one. The weapon for the last step sits in the black and gold Lieutenant crate inside the room.

Bank Vaults, Keypads and the Door Breacher Charge
Hanex Bank vaults and the “Hanex bank code”
“Hanex bank code” is one of the most searched DMZ questions, and the answer is that there is no code to look up. A bank vault opens in three steps. Put a car battery (from a gas station, a UAV truck or your stash) into the sparking power panel in the bank. Find the Bank Branch Vault Access keycard, a Rare key that spawns somewhere inside the same bank, and swipe it at the vault door. Then enter a four digit code on the keypad: a note in the bank, often near the stairs, gives the first three digits, and you try the last one until the door opens. Branches with this setup are in north Songdo Wharf and next to the gas station below Wolves Stadium (both on the map), and reportedly in Cheongun Village. DMZ Orders page 20, Find a Way Inside the Vault, points at the last two. Inside you get two or three safes and loose cash, sometimes a gold skull, gold bars or a recipe, and the shelves hold Sanctioned Assassination Lists and Cipher Code Ledgers. The vault floor in the Hanex Bank tower in The Grid shows the same access code prompt; the Hanex Guard Station key opens the guard room next to it, not the vault.
Keypad doors
Every keypad code we have entered was different in the next match: the mall security door in Shopping Hacks, the six digit armory code in Iron Citadel, the scientist doors in Viral Reckoning, the WMD door in Broken Resupply, the HVT room in Dead Man’s Cache. The code is always nearby, in a safe, on a laptop or on notes in the same building, and the mission tracker tells you where. Any list of “MW4 DMZ codes” you find online comes from the campaign mission Stranded and does nothing in DMZ.
Door Breacher Charge
The Door Breacher Charge is an Ultra key item that opens any locked door once. The Vendor sells it for $50,000 when it is in stock, and it is the hottest trade in our Discord because it is the only way back into the Supreme Leader’s bunker after the single use card is spent. Do not waste it on a door you can open another way.
Places People Search for That Have No Key
La Grande Vie. The tall tower in Songdo Wharf has no key. The lift at the back runs without power to the top floor, a hidden stair leads to the roof with the antenna for the Triangulation order, and the locker up there often spawns High Tenacity Fibers.
The Heavenly Luck Casino vault. The big round vault you drill in Operation Silent Ledger is not a key door: the camera room in the penthouse opens its gate, the drill starts a timer, and the cash bags go on the truck. The two key doors in the casino are the Counting Room on the main floor and the Vault Armory in the parking garage.
The Air Base armory. The armory doors in the Chang-san Air Base Bunker take the Armory Card from Operation Iron Citadel plus a six digit code from three notes. The Air Base DRC Weapons Locker key only opens the locker inside that armory, and the locker moves around inside the room, so open it during the mission while you are in there anyway.
How do you get keys in MW4 DMZ?
Four ways. The six story missions each reward a key (Counting Room Vault, Coin Mining Den, Mirae Electrical Room, Roze's Highrise Armory, Supreme Leader's Bunker Access Card, Reactor DRC Locker). Survival Kits from the level rewards contain the Gun Store and Blackmarket locker keys. Lieutenants drop their own Legendary keys. Everything else spawns as loot in jackets, duffels, military bags, caches, industrial lockers and safes, usually somewhere else on the map than the door it opens.
Where is the Counting Room Vault in MW4 DMZ?
On the main floor of the Heavenly Luck Casino in Cheongun Village, grid F4. Go in through the south lobby, turn right into the east wing and follow the corridor to the door marked Counting Room. The Counting Room Vault key (Epic) opens it and the inner door; the keypad next to that inner door does nothing. The key is the reward for Operation Silent Ledger.
Where is the Coin Mining Den key used?
In NuriGO West, grid G6: the apartment block directly east of the westernmost gas station inside NuriGO Mall. Take the south stairwell to the landing marked 3 and the grey office door is on that floor. The key is the reward for Operation Shopping Hacks and the room holds crafting parts, not weapons.
What is the Hanex Bank code in DMZ?
There is no fixed code. A bank vault needs a car battery in the sparking power panel, the Bank Branch Vault Access keycard that spawns inside the bank, and a four digit code. A note in the bank gives the first three digits and you try the fourth. The Hanex Guard Station key is a separate Epic key for the guard room next to the vault in the Hanex Bank tower in The Grid.
Is there a La Grande Vie key?
No. La Grande Vie is the tall tower in Songdo Wharf. People search for it because the Triangulation order puts a transmitter on its roof and because High Tenacity Fibers spawn in the locker up there. The lift works without power and there is no locked key door in the building.
Which key opens Hotel Lucera?
Two keys exist. The Hotel Lucera Lobby key opens the glass street door, and the Lucera Suite 703 Bedroom key (Epic, H7) opens the bedroom inside suite 703 on the top floors; the suite itself is open. Operation Grid Assault also sends you to the hotel for a code segment, which needs no key.
How many keys are there in MW4 DMZ?
We count 47 named keys plus a few mission items such as the Air Base Access Card, the Boathouse Key and the Helicopter Key. Every key tooltip starts with a grid square, and that square is your best clue to the door. The map on this page marks every door we have a position for, and the cards say whether we have confirmed the door on video or opened it ourselves.
Do keys in DMZ have limited uses?
No key tooltip shows a number of uses, but keys are single use: our Commandant Office key disappeared from the backpack the moment the door unlocked, mission keys such as the Counting Room Vault key and the Supreme Leader's Bunker Access Card go the same way, and a Gun Store Weapons Locker key opens one locker.
What is a Lieutenant's Key?
The order Keep Out asks you to loot a Lieutenant's Key and enter a Lieutenant's Room. There is no item with that exact name. Any Legendary key with a Lieutenant's name counts, such as The Doctor's Command Office or Jin-Tae's Private Lounge, and so does the Supreme Leader's Bunker Access Card. If a Lieutenant does not drop a key, search the body.
What does B6 or F4 on a key mean?
It is the tac map square where the door is, letters A to J west to east and numbers 1 to 9 north to south. It is not a floor or a basement level. Open the tac map, find the square, and the door is somewhere inside the named building in that square.
