Rescuing an Operator in MW4 DMZ costs between $1,000 at Steel I and $100,000 at Onyx III. The price follows the Operator’s Dog Tag rank and climbs faster the higher you go. We measured it ourselves in October 2026 by letting our own Operators die at every rank we could reach, and the full table is below.

This guide is still in progress. Steel II, Gold II and III, Damascus II and Onyx I and II are estimates for now. We are measuring them and replace the estimates as soon as we have the real numbers.

TL;DR
  • Silver I costs $15,000, Gold I $26,000, Damascus I $45,000 and Onyx III $100,000.
  • Only the Dog Tag rank and prestige count. Dying again, unspent Trait Points and how you spread your traits do not change the price.
  • The price is set at the rank you die on. A rank up in the after action report comes after it.
  • The MIA Recovery Discount takes 5% off, and an Operator Rescue Beacon makes the rescue free.

MW4 DMZ Rescue Cost per Dog Tag Rank

When an Operator dies or fails to exfil, they go Missing In Action (MIA). You cannot deploy them again until you pay DMZ cash at the Operators station in the FOB, or you dismiss them. Every Dog Tag rank also gives one Trait Point, so the rank and the Operator’s Trait Points go up together, from 1 at Steel I to 18 at Onyx III.

The table shows the base price and what you pay with the MIA Recovery Discount I from the 3D Printer. Ranks marked as an estimate are ones we have not measured yet. Their price is our estimate from the ranks around them, and we replace it with the real number as soon as we measure it.

Measured on October 30, 2026, except Damascus III, which we measured on October 21. Activision is asking players about these prices in an in-game survey that got 657 upvotes on r/DMZ, so they can change. We will update the table when they do.

What Changes the Rescue Price

We tested every rule we saw on Reddit and in our Discord. Most of them are wrong. Only two things move the price.

  • The Dog Tag rank. Each rank has its own price, the table above.
  • Prestige. Each prestige level counts as one extra rank. More on that below.

These do not change it:

  • Dying again. We rescued our Army SF Airborne for $7,600, let him die straight away at the same rank and got the same $7,600 again. A Reddit thread says the price keeps rising every death. When it rises, it is because the rank went up in between.
  • Unspent Trait Points. Our CTSFO had 13 points and spent none of them. He still cost the full Damascus I price.
  • Spreading your traits. Our Gold I CTSFO had his points split over two trees and cost exactly the Gold I price. Putting 3, 3 and 3 into three trees does not make a rescue cheaper.

The price is set at the rank you die on. If the after action report ranks your Operator up, the rescue still costs the old rank’s price. You only pay the new rank after your next death.

Rescue Cost After Prestige

Prestige resets your Operator to Steel and lets you earn a permanent Prestige Trait, as our MW4 DMZ traits guide explains. For the rescue price, every prestige level counts as one extra rank. We tested it with our Army SF Airborne at prestige 3.

OperatorCounts asRescue cost
Steel I, prestige 3Bronze I$8,000
Steel II, prestige 3Bronze II$10,000

Above Onyx III we only have reports from other players. In our Discord one player paid $135,000 for a maxed Operator at prestige 1, and another posted a $190,000 rescue at prestige 2. So a maxed Operator with prestige climbs past $100,000.

We do not know yet how this goes past prestige 3. An Operator can hold at most three Prestige Traits. If the price counts those traits, a prestige 6 Operator pays the same as a prestige 3 one. If it counts the prestige level, every prestige keeps adding a rank. Paid a rescue at prestige 4 or higher? Send us a screenshot of the rescue window and the Operators screen in our Discord.

How to Pay Less for a Rescue

  • Operator Rescue Beacon. Switch it on for your Operator before you deploy and a failed exfil costs nothing. Page 3 of the DMZ Orders gives one as a reward. Invoked by Red shows how the beacon works in this rescue beacon video.
  • MIA Recovery Discount. Discount I is an upgrade in the 3D Printer and takes 5% off every rescue, $5,000 on a maxed Operator.
  • Possum. This Warfighter trait brings you back once per match, so the Operator never goes MIA. On a high rank it saves you the most.
  • A throwaway Operator. Once you have a spare Operator slot, keep one Operator on a low rank for runs where you expect to die.
  • Prestige. A maxed Operator costs $100,000. After prestige 3 he is back at $8,000.

When to Rescue and When to Walk Away

We buy our Operators back almost every time. Traits are what make an Operator good, and paying is quicker than earning those Trait Points again. Up to Gold the price is small next to what a decent run pays.

The exception is our throwaway Operator. When we know a run is risky, like a PvP hunt or a hot zone, we take the cheap one and just dismiss him if it goes wrong.

Past Damascus the numbers get heavy. If you keep losing a maxed Operator, prestige him. It is the fastest way from a $100,000 rescue back to a few thousand, and you keep a permanent Prestige Trait on top. The rest of the FOB, from the Operators station to the Gunsmith, is in our MW4 DMZ FOB guide, and the official DMZ deep dive from Activision explains why the MIA system exists.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to rescue an Operator in MW4 DMZ?

It depends on the Operator's Dog Tag rank. We measured $1,000 at Steel I, $15,000 at Silver I, $26,000 at Gold I, $45,000 at Damascus I and $100,000 at Onyx III, the highest rank. The MIA Recovery Discount from the 3D Printer takes 5% off.

Does the rescue cost go up every time you die in DMZ?

No. We rescued the same Operator and let him die again straight away at the same rank, and the price was $7,600 both times. The price only follows the Dog Tag rank and the Operator's prestige, not how often you have paid before.

Do unspent Trait Points make a rescue cheaper?

No. Our CTSFO at Damascus I had not spent a single one of his 13 Trait Points and still cost $45,000 before the discount, the full price for that rank. Spreading your traits over several trees does not lower the price either.

Does prestige reset the rescue cost in MW4 DMZ?

Partly. Prestige drops the Operator back to Steel, so a rescue becomes cheap again. Every prestige level makes each rank more expensive though: our Steel II Operator at prestige 3 cost the same as a Bronze II Operator without prestige. Prestige counts as one extra rank per level.

How do you rescue an Operator for free in DMZ?

With an Operator Rescue Beacon. Switch it on for your Operator before you deploy and a failed exfil is rescued for no cost. You get beacons as rewards, for example on page 3 of the DMZ Orders.

What do you keep when you rescue an Operator?

The Operator's purchased Traits, unspent Trait Points and Dog Tag rank. The majority of the loadout is lost, and so is everything in the backpack that was not in a secure slot.
