The Dragon Wings is a Grim tier relic on Ashes of the Damned that disables all power-up spawns when equipped. Unlocking it requires shooting three purple targets while mid-air on a jump pad and surviving a 4-wave trial where power-ups damage you on contact. It is one of the easiest relics to unlock in the game, but also one of the least useful to actually equip. Based on the Dragon Wings from Gorod Krovi in Black Ops 3, this relic was found within 48 hours of Cursed mode launching.

TL;DR
  • Cursed Mode, round 20+, bring a Pack-a-Punched weapon
  • Take the Vandorn Farm jump pad and shoot 3 purple targets mid-air
  • Enter the green trial portal at Vandorn Farm
  • Survive 4 waves while avoiding power-ups that damage you on contact
  • Relic effect: all power-up spawns disabled (not recommended to equip)

We completed this relic on our first attempt and documented every step. The relic was one of the first to be covered by creators like TheGamingRevolution, MrRoflWaffles, and MrDalekJD on YouTube. Our team calls it "super easy" and recommends grabbing the Peacekeeper wall buy at Vandorn Farm before starting.

Requirements

Before you can start the Dragon Wings quest, you need these things ready.

Requirement Details
MapAshes of the Damned
Relic TierGrim (lowest tier, 1 point)
Cursed Tier NeededNone. Grim relics are available from the start of Cursed mode.
Round 20+Grim relic trials become available from round 20 onward.
Main Easter EggMust have completed the Ashes of the Damned main Easter egg.
PaP WeaponYou need a Pack-a-Punched weapon to hit the mid-air targets. Any PaP tier works.

Step 1: Shoot the Jump Pad Targets

Go to the jump pad at Vandorn Farm that launches you toward Janus Towers Plaza. Take the jump pad and look for three purple glowing targets in the air. Shoot all three while airborne with your Pack-a-Punched weapon. If you hit all three, you hear Mr. Peeks laugh.

Your aim sensitivity drops while airborne on the jump pad. The targets are not hard to hit, but the reduced sensitivity makes it feel sluggish. Consider bumping up your sensitivity before the attempt. If you miss, you can retry on the next round.

Step 2: Enter the Portal

After hitting all three targets, return to Vandorn Farm. A green relic trial portal appears on the side of the farmhouse. Interact with it to start the trial.

You are locked into the Vandorn Farm area for the entire fight. The trial modifier is simple: every zombie you kill drops a power-up, and touching any power-up deals about half your health in damage.

Step 3: Survive the Trial (4 Waves)

Wave Objective Notes
Wave 1Kill standard zombies (fill the bar)Easy warmup, watch for dropped power-ups
Wave 2Kill marked HVT DoppelgastsFocus fire on the glowing enemies
Wave 3Kill standard zombies (fill the bar)More zombies, more power-up landmines
Wave 4Kill 2 marked HVT DoppelgastsFinal push, avoid the power-up pile

The key strategy is spacing. Train zombies to one end of Vandorn Farm, kill them there, and then move to the opposite end while the dropped power-ups pile up behind you. The saw trap at the barn is also available during the trial and earns 50 points per kill in Cursed mode. MrRoflWaffles suggests using the trap for efficient kills without having to stand near the bodies.

Our team found that power-ups take about half your health on contact. You will not die from touching one, but two in quick succession will down you. We have seen a teammate die from running through multiple power-ups at once. The ammo cache at Vandorn Farm stays active during the trial, so ammo is not an issue.

After completing all 4 waves, any remaining power-ups on the ground become safe to pick up. You are teleported back and the Dragon Wings relic is permanently unlocked for Ashes of the Damned.

Relic Effect

Dragon Wings relic description showing normal power-up spawns are disabled in BO7 Cursed mode

When you equip Dragon Wings in future Cursed runs, all normal power-up spawns are disabled. No Max Ammo, no Instakill, no Nuke, no Double Points, nothing. Power-ups from Gobble Gum machines still work, but everything else is gone.

Losing Max Ammo is the real problem. Without it, you cannot refill your equipment (lethals and tacticals) through normal gameplay. In later rounds where ammo management already gets tight, this makes the relic feel punishing in a way that does not add interesting challenge, just frustration. Our team put it bluntly: "Not having a Max Ammo to refill equipment is very brutal."

All Ashes of the Damned Relics

Ashes of the Damned has 9 relics total, the most of any map. For a full breakdown of the relic system and tier rewards, see our What Is Cursed Mode guide.

Tips

  • Grab the Peacekeeper wall buy at Vandorn Farm and Pack-a-Punch it before attempting the jump pad targets. We recommend at least PaP Tier 1 or 2.
  • Use the saw trap at the barn during the trial. It kills zombies without you standing near the dropped power-ups.
  • Cycle between killing zones. Kill at one end of Vandorn Farm, let the power-ups pile up, then move to the other end.
  • The ammo cache stays active during the trial. You will not run out of ammo.
  • This relic is fully soloable. No co-op mechanics required.
  • Dragon Wings is not worth equipping over Teddy Bear. Only unlock it for completionism or if you want more relic flexibility for reaching higher tiers.
  • If you need a solid loadout for reaching round 20+ comfortably, check our best BO7 Zombies loadout guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Dragon Wings relic do in BO7 Zombies?

The Dragon Wings relic disables all normal power-up spawns when equipped. Power-ups from zombie kills, Ravager Rounds, and other sources no longer appear. This means no Max Ammo, no Instakill, no Nuke, and no Double Points for the entire match. Gobble Gum power-ups still work.

How do you unlock the Dragon Wings relic on Ashes of the Damned?

Reach round 20 in Cursed mode on Ashes of the Damned. Take the jump pad from Vandorn Farm to Janus Towers Plaza and shoot all three purple glowing targets mid-air with a Pack-a-Punched weapon. A green trial portal spawns at Vandorn Farm. Enter it and survive 4 waves while avoiding power-ups that damage you on contact.

How do you shoot the targets on the jump pad in BO7?

The three purple targets appear while you are airborne on the jump pad from Vandorn Farm to Janus Towers Plaza. You need a Pack-a-Punched weapon (any tier works). Aim sensitivity drops while airborne, so consider increasing your sensitivity before attempting. You can retry on the next round if you miss.

Do power-ups kill you during the Dragon Wings trial?

Power-ups deal about half your health in damage when touched during the trial. They do not one-shot you, but running through two in quick succession can down you. Train zombies to one side of the area, kill them, and move to the other side to stay away from the dropped power-ups.

Is the Dragon Wings relic worth equipping in BO7?

Most players and our team consider Dragon Wings one of the weakest Grim relics. Losing Max Ammo drops makes ammo management and equipment refills brutal in later rounds. The Teddy Bear relic is a much better Grim option since its 75% round delay reduction has minimal impact on gameplay. Only unlock Dragon Wings for completionism or extra relic flexibility.

Can you unlock the Dragon Wings relic solo in BO7?

Yes. The Dragon Wings relic is fully soloable. The trial is slightly easier in co-op since teammates can revive you, but the 4-wave trial at Vandorn Farm is manageable solo with a Pack-a-Punched weapon. Use the saw trap at the barn to kill zombies safely without standing near dropped power-ups.
