Wild Fire is not a good field upgrade in Black Ops 7 Zombies, and we will be honest about that up front. But if you are going to run it, whether you are bored of the usual picks or you just unlocked it, the build that actually gets something out of it is Flashover with Molten Core and Oxidizer.
We ran Wild Fire and tested every Major and Minor on the current patch. Here is the loadout that held up, why the augment everyone else recommends fell flat for us, and how far into the research grind you have to go before any of it matters.
- Verdict: Flashover is the top Major. Every third pulse deals significantly more damage in a larger radius, and stacked with the right Minors it lets you hold ground even at round 30.
- Best Minors: Molten Core and Oxidizer. Molten Core scales your damage as zombies close in, which is exactly where Wild Fire wants them, and Oxidizer stretches the active window from about 15 seconds to 22.
- Skip: Firestorm. The fire tornado grabs one zombie at a time and kills slowly, so despite its reputation it is the worst Major here.
- How far to grind: Flashover is the eighth of nine unlocks, and you need the ninth, Extra Slot, to run both Minors together. So this is close to a full-completion build.
The Best Wild Fire Augment Build
Every third Wild Fire pulse, starting from activation, deals significantly more damage in a larger radius.
Enemies are dealt more damage the closer they get to you.
Increases Wild Fire's duration, from about 15 seconds to 22 in our testing.
Running both Minors at once needs Extra Slot, the final research node. Flashover is the eighth of nine unlocks, so once you have it, finishing the grid is a short grind.
The Flashover Major augment makes Wild Fire worth the slot at all. On its own the field upgrade is a modest burning aura, but Flashover’s third-pulse spike lands like a small explosion, and when you pair it with Molten Core feeding extra damage into anything nearby, the two together clear the zombies stacked around you instead of just tickling them.
What Wild Fire Actually Does
Wild Fire imbues you with fire. You get a movement-speed boost and a burning aura that damages any enemy that gets too close, and it pulses out from you on a short loop. It is a close-range tool, not a long-range one. On the base upgrade with no augments it will still clear a full horde on its own.
There is one piece of utility that is easy to miss: activating Wild Fire makes you immune to freezing during Totenreich’s special rounds, and that comes from the base upgrade rather than any augment. What’s also good about Wild Fire is that the damage scales. Doughnuts’ hands-on testing put each pulse at about 24.9 percent of a normal zombie’s base health with a fire burn doing damage on top of that.
How to Unlock Every Wild Fire Augment
Every field upgrade carries eight augments, four Majors and four Minors, and by default you equip one of each. Researching all eight to 100 percent unlocks Extra Slot, the ninth node, which is the one that lets you run two Minors at once. That matters here because our build wants both Molten Core and Oxidizer, so this is effectively a run-to-completion field upgrade rather than one you can stop halfway.
Flashover, our recommended Major, is the eighth of the nine unlocks, so you are almost at the end of the grid by the time you can equip the build we recommend. The good news is that the last stretch to Extra Slot is short once Flashover is done.
Funny enough, one of the first field upgrades we researched to 100% was Wild Fire. The research screen kept quietly switching our active project back to Wild Fire while we were trying to work on other things, so it hit 100 percent before anything we actually meant to prioritise. Plenty of players have hit the same thing, sometimes as a progress bar that resets on its own:
“This is now the THIRD time my wild fire progress has been reset. If you interrupt the research it will reset eventually, so if you decide to research wildfire, do it until it’s at 100 percent.”

If you would rather not commit the whole grind, know that without Extra Slot you are running one Minor, not two, so pair Flashover with Molten Core and leave Oxidizer for when the final node is done. If Wild Fire is not your main field upgrade, that research time is better spent finishing Juggernog or Quick Revive first.
All Major Augments for Wild Fire Ranked
Flashover is the pick and it is not close. Every third pulse deals a big spike of damage in a wider radius, and combined with a duration Minor those spikes come around often enough to actually clear a horde. This is the augment that let us stand still at round 30 and let Wild Fire handle the zombies walking into us. None of the other three do that.
Free Radical is next, and it is fine rather than good. It drops pools of fire on the ground while Wild Fire is active, so you leave a trail of little Molotov puddles as you move. It looks unique, but the damage is on the level of a lethal grenade, so it never earned a slot over Flashover for us.
Fireball launches a fire orb next to you that shoots at enemies whenever you fire your weapon. It is the best-looking augment of the lot, but it does very little damage, so it is a visual upgrade more than a real one.
Firestorm is the one that surprised us, and not in a good way. It is the augment most guides and creators point to, and on paper a fire tornado that pulls zombies in and immolates them sounds like the best thing on this list. One creator flat out calls Firestorm the augment that breaks Wild Fire. In our runs it was the opposite. The tornado grabbed one enemy at a time and killed it slowly, so against an actual horde it barely did anything. That is why it sits at the bottom of our list despite its reputation.
All Minor Augments for Wild Fire Ranked
Molten Core is the Minor we recommend, and it deserves the top spot. Wild Fire is a close-range tool, so an augment that deals more damage the closer enemies get is pointed exactly where the field upgrade already wants to fight. It is the piece that turns the field upgrade from chip damage into real clearing power in the high rounds. Oxidizer is the one to pair with it. It pushes the active duration from around 15 seconds to about 22 in our testing, which is roughly a 50 percent longer window.
Backdraft’s description sounds nice, but does almost nothing for a normal run. It knocks down nearby normal enemies and stuns specials and elites on activation, so the one time it matters is popping Wild Fire right next to an HVT or boss to freeze it for a couple of seconds. Outside that, it barely does any damage, so it is a situational pick rather than a slot you keep. Heat Surge just makes you faster while Wild Fire is active, maybe a 10 percent speed bump. Speed is not the reason you run this field upgrade, damage is, so it is the Minor we would choose last. If moving fast is the goal, that is what Aether Shroud is for.
When to Run a Different Field Upgrade
You can only equip one Field Upgrade at a time, so running Wild Fire means passing on everything else, and most of the time we would pass on Wild Fire instead. Our go-to picks are Aether Shroud, Toxic Growth and Frenzied Guard, and if we are carrying a team of newer players, Healing Aura.
The comparison that really shows why you might want to reconsider running Wild Fire is a piece of equipment rather than another field upgrade. The Kazimir grenade can clear a full horde, and it does so a lot faster than Wild Fire. And that’s just a piece of equipment. A field upgrade should really be a lot better than a piece of equipment, and in this case, it isn’t. We never found a round or a map situation where Wild Fire pulled ahead of Aether Shroud or Frenzied Guard for us.
So who is it for? Run Wild Fire when you have burned out on the meta picks and want something that plays differently, or when you have already researched it to 100 percent and fancy a fire build for a few games. It is fun and it is fresh, and with Flashover, Molten Core and Oxidizer it is genuinely capable into round 30. Just go in knowing it is a change of pace, not an upgrade over the field upgrades you were already running.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best Wild Fire augment build in BO7 Zombies?
Flashover as the Major, with Molten Core and Oxidizer as the two Minors. Flashover makes every third pulse hit much harder in a bigger radius, Molten Core scales your close-range damage, and Oxidizer keeps the fire active longer. Running both Minors at once needs Extra Slot, the final research node.
Is Wild Fire worth using in BO7 Zombies?
It is a fun, fresh field upgrade rather than a top-tier one. We would reach for Aether Shroud, Toxic Growth or Frenzied Guard first, and a Kazimir throw clears a tight corner faster. Wild Fire earns a slot when you want something different or you get overrun in a doorway, not as your main high-round answer.
Is Firestorm a good Wild Fire augment?
It is the augment most guides point to, but in our own testing the fire tornado only pulls in one zombie at a time and kills it slowly, so it barely dents a horde. We rank it last of the four Majors and run Flashover instead.
Do you need to fully research Wild Fire?
Effectively yes if you want the full build. Flashover is the eighth of nine unlocks, and the ninth is Extra Slot, which is what lets you run Molten Core and Oxidizer together. The upside is that by the time Flashover is done you are almost at 100 percent, so the last stretch is short.
Does Wild Fire protect you from freezing in Totenreich?
Yes. Activating Wild Fire makes you immune to freezing during the Totenreich special rounds, and that comes from the base field upgrade, so it works no matter which augments you have equipped.
How long does Wild Fire last with Oxidizer?
About 22 seconds in our runs, up from roughly 15 at base. That extra uptime is the main reason Oxidizer is one of the two Minors we run.
