The Warden’s Hat is a side Easter egg on Rex Infernus, the Black Ops 7 Zombies map, and it makes you immune to the web slow from Deathspinners and Web Mothers. You earn it by grappling onto a Web Mother with the Void Claw, eliminating 50 zombies while you ride its back, then feeding that same Web Mother to the Pack-a-Punch well.
We chased this one down and it fought back the whole way. We went down three times and did not unlock it until round 34. Here is exactly how it works, the number you actually need, and our honest take on whether the Warden Helmet is worth the grind.
- The Warden’s Hat gives immunity to the web slow from Deathspinners and Web Mothers, but webs still deal damage
- You need Pack-a-Punch active at the Nexus Forge and the Void Claw grapple before you start
- Web Mothers start spawning around round 16, and only about one round in four
- Grapple onto a Web Mother with the Void Claw and eliminate 50 zombies while riding it
- 75 eliminations while riding unlocks the separate Arachnid Enthusiast calling card, not the hat
- Lure the Web Mother to the Pack-a-Punch well and Void Claw it, and the hat pops out
What the Warden’s Hat Does
Rex Infernus has four free masks and hats: the Goat Mask, the Astronaut Helmet, the Forest mask, and the Warden’s Hat. The Warden’s Hat is the niche one. Put it on and you stop getting slowed by the webs that Deathspinners and Web Mothers spit at you.
Read that carefully, because it is the part most people get wrong. It is web slow immunity, not web damage immunity. Those webs still chip your health, you just keep moving through them instead of getting pinned. On a map that throws Deathspinners at you constantly, staying mobile is genuinely useful, it is only the size of the effect that lets it down. Once you have the hat it is yours for the rest of the match.
What You Need Before You Start
Two things have to be done before the Warden’s Hat is even possible. First, Pack-a-Punch needs to be active at the Nexus Forge, since the final step uses the Pack-a-Punch well. Second, you need the Void Claw grapple.
The Void Claw sits on a green pedestal underneath the Nexus Forge. Grab it, because it is the tool that lets you ride a Web Mother later. Without it there is no Easter egg, so treat it as step zero.
Wait for the Web Mother
Web Mothers are the elite spiders that web and cocoon you, and they start showing up from around round 16. They are not a guaranteed spawn either. In our run they turned up roughly one round in four, so a big chunk of this Easter egg is just waiting for the next one to appear.
That spawn rate is the real reason the whole thing dragged on for us. The eliminations are not the slow part, the waiting is. Keep the Web Mother alive when one does spawn, because you need it in one piece for the next step.
Ride the Web Mother for 50 Eliminations
Here is the quick rundown: Aim the Void Claw at a Web Mother and grapple onto its back. Now eliminate 50 zombies while you are mounted, whilst in the Pack-a-Punch area. It sounds simple, but doing this in-game is quite difficult.
You only stay on the spider for about 5 seconds before it throws you off, and that timing was the same on every attempt. The Pack-a-Punch area is small, so you are fighting in a cramped space the whole time. It took us four separate mounts to hit the 50. You also still take damage while riding, you are not invincible up there, which is exactly how we ended up going down three times.
You also cannot use equipment like the LT53 Kazimir while mounted, so your gun is your only tool. Pack-a-Punch it before you commit to the ride.
One number to be clear about, because guide sites keep getting it wrong. The hat needs 50 eliminations, not the 75 you see quoted elsewhere. That 75 unlocks a separate reward, the Arachnid Enthusiast calling card, covered in the next section.
The game never shows a live counter for the hat, so you cannot see your progress mid ride. Keep eliminating until it pops rather than trying to count in your head.
Unlock the Arachnid Enthusiast Calling Card
Pushing to 75 is not wasted effort, because it unlocks a calling card. Clearing the Arachnid Enthusiast Dark Ops challenge, described in game as “Kill 75 zombies while riding the Web Mother”, rewards the Arachnid Enthusiast calling card. It is separate from the Warden’s Hat, which only asks for 50, so if you keep riding to 75 in the same session you walk away with both the hat and the card.
Click to enlarge Arachnid Enthusiast is its own Dark Ops challenge at 75 eliminations. The Warden's Hat only asks for 50. Claim the Warden’s Hat
Once you have your 50, the Web Mother will jump into the Pack-a-Punch well. Once it jumps in there, the Warden’s Hat gets ejected for you to grab.
Put it on and the web slow immunity is active immediately. That is the side Easter egg done.
Is the Warden’s Hat Worth It
No, and we would skip it on most runs. The effect is too small to justify the effort. You are grinding a spawn-gated elite across multiple rounds, taking damage the whole time, for immunity to a slow rather than immunity to actual damage. We did not finish until round 34, and it stopped being fun long before that.
Compare it to the Astronaut Helmet. That one gives fall-damage immunity and doubles your Void Claw duration, it is more practical, and it is more enjoyable to earn. Plenty of players feel the same way about the mask lineup:
Honestly the space mask is probably the most useful one so far. No fall damage plus double grapple time sounds way more practical than the house mask, especially with how often the Warden can knock you around. u/ndkdjdkdknfbfkdk on r/CODZombies
If you are a completionist, go get it and wear it with pride. If you just want the best mask for your run, the Astronaut Helmet is the better use of your time.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Warden's Hat do in Rex Infernus?
It makes you immune to the slowing effect of spider webs from Deathspinners and Web Mothers. That is the whole effect. The webs still deal damage, you just do not get stuck in place. Once you put it on it stays on for the rest of that match.
How many zombies do you need to eliminate to get the Warden's Hat?
50 eliminations while you are riding a Web Mother. The game does not show a counter during the ride, so you cannot track it live. Do not confuse this with the 75 eliminations for the Arachnid Enthusiast Dark Ops challenge, which is a separate reward.
What is the Arachnid Enthusiast calling card and how do you unlock it?
Arachnid Enthusiast is the calling card for the Dark Ops challenge of the same name, described in game as "Kill 75 zombies while riding the Web Mother". It is separate from the Warden's Hat, which only needs 50, so you can pick up both in one ride if you keep going to 75.
What round do Web Mothers spawn on Rex Infernus?
From around round 16 onward. They are an elite spawn, not a guaranteed one, so they only turn up about one round in four. That is why this Easter egg can stretch a run out, since you are waiting on the spawn as much as the eliminations.
Is the Warden's Hat the same as the Astronaut Helmet?
No, and this is where people get confused. The Astronaut Helmet gives fall-damage immunity and doubles your Void Claw duration. The Warden's Hat only handles web slow. If you want the mobility perks you are chasing the wrong mask.
What weapon works best while riding the Web Mother?
Something explosive with a large area of effect. We ran a Pack-a-Punched Mustang & Sally because you cannot aim well from the spider's back, so splash damage carries you. Plenty of players are having luck with the Echo 12 and its new attachment too.
Is the Warden's Hat worth getting?
Honestly, not really. The effect is niche, the grind is rough, and the Astronaut Helmet is both easier to enjoy and more useful. Get the Warden's Hat for the completion, not because it will change your run.
